Christmas Preparations

The kids helped decorate the Christmas trees and excitedly put out their boots for a visit from St. Nicholas.  He always brings them a special ornament, some sort of book, and some candy.

Grandma hosted her annual Christmas tea party for all the grandkids.

On the most beautiful warm and snowy night, we went to see the lights at Rondele Ranch.  They were so magical!  We even got to meet Santa Claus!

Livi and Simon both sang in the All Age Choir for the church Christmas program.  Olivia was also an angel.  They both did an amazing job!

Our Cozy Christmas

A few years ago, we adopted the tradition of celebrating our Christmas a few days before to avoid the rush and craziness of the holiday gatherings and travel.  It allowed us the time to really soak in the memories together and we loved it. We opened presents together, made sugar cookies and decorated them, and spent the day in our jammies, enjoying our new treasures. It was the perfect, cozy Christmas day!

November Homeschool

We had an absolutely awesome Prairie themed party to celebrate the completion of our Prairie Thief book.  We made an awesome breakfast of homemade bread and jam, homemade cornbread, homemade apple pie, scrambled eggs, bacon, pancakes with our Timber Haven maple syrup. It was delicious.

Then we did a mock trial to learn a little more about how the legal system works.  We put the Big Bad Wolf (Nolan) on trial for blowing down the 3 little pigs houses, ultimately causing the death of one of the pigs.  It was so fun and the kids really got into it.

One of the best parts of the party was the general store that we put together.  Each kid got several pennies and got to "purchase" items that would have been found in a pioneer era general store...fabric, buttons, simple candies, ribbon, marbles, tea, candles, soap, and more.  It was so fun and it took each kid a very long time to carefully choose their items.  It was such a fun experience!

The kids learned how to cross stitch and each made a bookmark!

Simon has been working hard on his cutting and gluing skills.  He is getting better and better!
