Wildwood Zoo

One of the things on our summer bucket list was a trip to the zoo.  We love going up to Wildwood Zoo in Minocqua and we found a beautiful day to visit and take Grandma with us.  One of the special parts about this particular zoo is how many animals there are to interact with.  There are white tailed deer throughout the park who are friendly, as well as goats, bunnies, and other petting zoo animals which are so fun for the kids to feed and pet.  Simon was beside himself, and wanted to "soft" (his word for petting soft fur) all the different animals.  We got to feed carrots to the giraffes, but Simon snuck some of the carrots for himself.  The monkeys put on an AMAZING show of vocalizing, howling, leaping, and climbing, making sounds unlike any I've ever heard before.  I could have watched them all day.  The mountain lions were in a spat and one kept growling and hissing at the other one.  It was so cool, but terrifying.  And the scarlet macaw made me scream outloud when he answered our talking to him with a super loud squawk.  Nolan was the goat man, and gathered a large collection of goat friends on his bench, while Simon and Livi sought out the little ones to give them a snack.  Simon's favorite animals were the turtles, which mostly just sunned themselves, but he would NOT leave them.  We finished our awesome day with a nice picnic in the shade.  It was a super fun day and we look forward to our visit next year!
