Rib Mountain and the Art Museum

We have been making friends through our local homeschool group and today we headed to Wausau for a field trip to Rib Mountain State Park and the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum for a glass blowing demonstration.  I have never been to Rib Mountain before, and was astonished at the beauty of the lookout point.  You could see the whole city of Wausau!  When our friends arrived, we went on a hike, though we ended up picking one that was much steeper than we intended.  When we got back to the top, my fitbit said we had climbed 52 flights of stairs!

The best part of this trip was watching our kids buddy up with other kids their own ages.  There are 2 boys Nolan's age, who have similar interests, and Livi had a whole group of sweet little girls to play with.  She really enjoyed buddying up with her pal Shaylee.

We had a picnic at the top of the mountain and then the kids spent a long time climbing on rocks and playing.  It was a beautiful day!

After lunch, we headed to the art museum.  We have never been there before, but will have to make a return visit!  The whole basement is full of interactive art stations for kids!  They colored pictures that were part of an exhibit and Olivia decorated a glass platter to be displayed on the wall.  They both felt so proud to be part of the exhibits!

Next, we headed outside to see a presentation on glass blowing by the Corning Museum of Glass. They did a demonstration on how to make a glass basket.  We were so amazed at how quickly the whole process happens!  It goes from a molten ball on the end of a stick to a fully formed design in about 15 minutes.  We were so impressed!

It was so fun to spend the day with some new friends and feel this sense of community as we experienced some new places and people.  What a wonderful day!
