We read Egg Marks the Spot by Amy Timberlake this month.  It is the second book in the Skunk and Badger series and was a favorite for all of us! Nolan drew this adorable picture of the book cover.

Badger is a geologist and spends much of his time doing "Important Rock Work." We painted an agate in his honor.

There two are tolerating the seemingly endless winter much better than I am!

We got a bunch of few new craft projects to try and Livi and I made a scarf together using a loom.

The kids wrote a skit together as one of their Brave Writer projects.  They all did a great job, but I sure got a kick out of the fact that Simon expertly delivered all of his lines on time without prompting, and I love that the big kids included him.

We made a chicken drawing with oil pastels to go with our Egg Marks the Spot book. 

We had a Pi Day celebration that included several pi math activities, as well as pie to eat.

We made these adorable chicken art projects with tempera paint, using painted paper to make the chickens.

We classified rocks and recorded their data in our Nature Journals.   We measured them, weighed them, and tested their hardness using the Moh's Hardness Scale.

Nolan and Olivia have been working hard at making rubber band rainbow bracelets.  They hope to be  able to sell them this summer.

 We finally got to deliver the 34 fleece tie blankets we made to the Humane Society. We made them for the One and Only Bob book, back in January.  They were greatly appreciated and we were so excited to get to have a tour of the shelter!  We met the sweetest cat, Peter, and we wanted to bring him home with us.  

They painted salt dough chicken ornaments.

Each kid got a hot chocolate mug with their initial and a favorite quote from the book.

We wrote fan mail to one of our favorite authors, Katherine Applegate.

I started the Playing Preschool program with Simon this month.  His first unit is Apples, and he loves it.  He has been sorting apples, painting with apples, and learning the Letter Aa.  He absolutely loves feeling like a big kid getting to do his schoolwork.

We made pet rocks and houses for them.  They had so much fun with this project - it took them all morning!
