Robins Return

After last year's front row seat to our little robin family growing before our eyes, we have been anxiously awaiting their return.  We were thrilled when Mama and Papa Robin started building their little nest above our light on our deck, and even more thrilled when the first little blue egg appeared. Two more eggs appeared after that and it wasn't long before they hatched!

Our little babies hatched, but the next morning disaster struck and we found one of the little hatchlings laying dead on the deck.  It's unclear if the baby died and Mama threw out the body, or if it fell out and froze to death.  Regardless, we thought it would be kind to give it a burial.  The kids painted rocks to mark the grave and Daddy helped us bury it back by the woods.

The remaining babies continued to grow, doted on constantly by Mama and Papa.  They started to get feathers and grew at an alarming rate.  It was not long before it was time for them to fledge.  We sure enjoyed the opportunity to watch this life cycle before our eyes and hope that they'll come back to nest next spring!
