Sick Little Girl

Somehow, despite our constant vigilance, lots of handwashing, and mask wearing, Olivia got sick.  She woke up saying that her head hurt and didn't have much of an appetite.  I didn't think much of it, but noticed that the outside of her ear was all swollen and red.  I figured it must have been a bug bite and we continued on with our day.  We were doing a car scavenger hunt of all the Hodags around town that morning and I knew we were in trouble when we arrived at our final Hodag at the Chamber.  She said she didn't feel good and I believed her, but tried to hurry to the Hodag anyway to snap a quick picture so we could be done.  She cried and fussed so we went back to the car, and then right as we were about to get in, she puked all over the parking lot.  I decided at that point that she needed to go see the doctor.  We got in that afternoon and she was diagnosed with an ear infection, which disrupted her balance enough to cause motion sickness while we were driving, which is what made her throw up.  She came home with antibiotics, slept a while, and improved rather quickly.  However, it seemed to turn into a cold and it made the rounds of the rest of our family, though it came and went pretty quickly.  I'm so relieved it wasn't covid and that we were able to get her feeling good again quickly!
