Last Day of School

Homeschooling was never the path we planned on taking, but it has been such a gift to spend time learning and growing with these kids this year. We all worked so hard to make the best of this time together. Of course, we covered the basics (Olivia became a great reader this year!) but our favorite part was our cross-curricular themes we covered over the course of the year. We learned about different cultures and holiday customs around the world. We celebrated women and minority leaders who made a difference in our society and made our own newspaper highlighting them. We talked about prejudice and injustice and how to stand up for others. We spent a lot of time in nature, watching our nest of baby robins grow, observing our caterpillars go through metamorphosis, and learning about ways to help take care of our earth. We learned about life in early America around the time of our founding fathers and learned about the importance of voting. We built our own zoo and learned about the needs and attributes of different species. We cooked together a lot. Nolan became a wonderful piano player. I am so proud of my kids for their positive attitudes and hard work. I worked hard too, trying to balance the role of teacher and mom, with not much time off duty. Together we made it through a challenging, but beautiful year and I am so thankful for the memories we made along the way. ❤️
