Crustfest

We spent this afternoon celebrating family, friends, and pie at our annual Crustfest.  Around 20 years ago, the tradition began when Patti and her sisters attended Cranberry Fest in Eagle River.  The primary draw for attending was the cranberry cheesecake that they served at this event.  But, by the time the ladies arrived, the cheesecake was sold out and they were left without a taste of delicious fall dessert.  They headed back to Aunt Jackie's house and made their own apple pie instead.  Hence the first Crustfest was born.  In the years following, the number of pies and people expanded and it has been a fall staple for all the women in the family ever since.

This year we celebrated at Aunt Debbie's house.  We started with soup and after our fall colors walk, we dove into the delicious, ever-so-flaky, pie.  We had pumpkin, apple, strawberry rhubarb crumble, and chocolate pumpkin.  All were delicious, but the company was even better.
